DUBAI // An 18-year-old man was killed this morning in a car crash when the driver, his 19-year-old brother, was speeding and hit a concrete barrier on Sheikh Zayed Road. Police said the victim, AA, was not wearing a seat belt and was propelled through the windscreen when the speeding white land cruiser hit the barrier of a construction area it was trying to avoid. The man sustained severe injuries and died instantly.
The accident occurred at around 7am opposite the Toyota dealership on the road between the second and third bridge travelling towards Jebel Ali. Police said the driver was trying to prevent hitting a concrete barrier which was placed for construction work when he hit a road barrier on the left side of the road and then swung back towards the right side of the road, hit another barrier and caused the car to flip.
The driver, MA, walked away with minor injuries. "The impact forced the victim out. He landed metres away from the car. He died on the spot," said a police spokesperson. rabubaker@thenational.ae
