DUBAI // Major roads in Dubai, Fujairah and Sharjah will be closed temporarily to make way for cyclists taking part in the 671 kilometre-long Dubai Tour 2016.
The four-day event begins on Wednesday, when cyclists will pedal 179km from the Dubai International Marine Club (Dimc) to Fujairah.
Roads in Dubai Silicon Oasis will be closed from 11am to 12.15pm, while Sharjah police will close the motorway to Fujairah from Al Badee bridge through Mleiha up to the Sheikh Khalifa bridge between 11am and 2pm.
On Day 2, riders will pass through Jumeirah Islands and Palm Jumeirah as part of a 188km route beginning at the Dimc and finishing at Atlantis The Palm hotel.
The third stage will take cyclists on a 172-km stretch from Dimc to Hatta Dam. Sharjah police will close the road from Al Badayer through Al Madam, and Mleiha and Al Dhaid headed to Hatta between 12.30pm and 2pm.
On Saturday, cyclists will ride from the Dimc to Business Bay following a 137-km route around Dubai. The event features top racers, including Al Nasr Pro Cycling Team and the Skydive Dubai Pro Cycling Team, and Team Wiggins, led by three-time Olympic Gold winner Sir Bradley Wiggins.
