An unsuspecting Dubai resident fell victim to a pair of maids who stole jewellery worth more Dh13,000 while working at her home, police said.

They said the pair managed to steal the gold items — including bracelets, rings, necklaces and chains — over a period of time without their employer noticing anything had disappeared.

The women, both from Asia, caused suspicion after trying to sell the stolen goods at a jewellery shop in Dubai without any identification documents or invoices, police said.

Brigadier Jamal Al Jallaf, of Dubai Police's criminal investigation department, said the housemaids confessed their crimes following their arrest.

Colonel Mohammed Ahli, deputy director of the Department of Criminal Investigation, said the victim sent a letter of thanks to police.
