Shoppers receiving phone calls and text messages promising them discount vouchers at Lulu hypermarket are being scammed, according to the supermarket chain.

Lulu Group issued a statement warning shoppers about fake posts on social media regarding raffle prizes and gift vouchers and clarified that these were not released by Lulu.

It had also lodged a complaint with the police, the statement said.

As part of the scam, UAE residents received phone calls from people claiming to work with Lulu with news about winning a prize.

The callers then asked for personal and financial information including their bank account and card details.

The message promising free vouchers to celebrate Lulu’s 18th anniversary contained a link to a fake website requiring banking information.

“Lulu Group hereby declares that it never contacts and has not authorised anyone to contact its customers or common public for their banking, credit card or any similar details,” the group said.

“The public is advised to exercise extreme caution while dealing with anyone asking for their bank card or other personal details and report the matter to the concerned authorities. Lulu Group has already lodged an official complaint with the concerned police authorities against such fraudsters.”

The retailer advised shoppers to find information about promotions through the group’s official social media accounts.
