Taxi drivers working in the UAE are being offered the chance to visit the Louvre Abu Dhabi for free until the end of December.

Regular admission is usually Dh63 for adults but the new promotion - which runs until December 31 - allows taxi drivers and two friends to go for free.

Drivers have been made aware of the scheme via a sign at the taxi stand outside the museum. Drivers need only bring their company ID.

Issac Kisakye, a taxi driver from Uganda, told The National he aimed to take full advantage of the scheme. He said he had already visited once.

“If you’re a fan of history and culture from different countries, it’s really quite eye-catching,” he said.

The Louvre Abu Dhabi opened in 2017 and has since become one of the country’s biggest tourist attractions.

Officials at the museum are keen to ensure its extensive collection is accessible to as large an audience as possible, including the country's taxi drivers.

The museum is open from 10am until 10pm on Thursdays and Fridays, and from 10am to 8pm Saturday to Wednesday, except on Mondays when it is usually closed.

For the holiday season, it will remain open the Mondays of December 2, 23 and 30.
