Egyptian told countryman that he could solve his case so he accepted money and offered the 'official' letter in return.
Legal consultant who forged Dubai Courts letter is jailed
DUBAI // A legal consultant who forged a letter and presented it to his client, claiming that his court case had been settled, was sentenced to six months in jail on Tuesday.
Egyptian AA, 25, met his countryman SY, 49, while the latter was at the Dubai Courts complex last September to follow up on a case that was not mentioned in records.
AA told SY that he could solve his case and have his name deleted from police’s search engine. SY agreed and paid the legal consultant Dh33,600 in instalments.
“After I had paid him all the money, he met with me and handed me a letter with the Dubai Prosecution letterhead and told me that my case had been solved but when I took the letter to court to double check about the status of my case, it turned out that the letter was forged,” said SY.
AA was then charged with forgery and with fraudulently obtaining Dh33,600.
He will be deported after completing his jail term.
