ABU DHABI // Budding scientists will be able to learn how a roller coaster works, or design their own waterpark at the Abu Dhabi Science Festival, which opens on Thursday.
The festival will see two anchor stands by Ferrari World and Yas Waterworld, which will give visitors insights into how their key attractions work.
The festival is organised by the Abu Dhabi Technology Development Committee (TDC), with the goal of promoting the case of scientists amongst school children in the Emirates.
“Year after year we aim to enrich our activities and offer the community the most thrilling festival ever,” said Lana Ghandour, senior manager, projects, science and technology promotion, at TDC.
“Our collaboration with Ferrari World Abu Dhabi and Yas Waterworld, two of the UAE’s most exciting family attractions, is testament to our mission to provide the richest, most inspirational scientific and technological experiences available.
“Their participation in the festival also demonstrates their support of instilling a passion for science and technology within our youth.”
The “Coaster Lab” stand by Ferrari World will feature an insight into the physics of roller coaster development, focusing on the example of the park’s key attraction, Formula Rossa.
“Through school programmes such as Coaster Lab we want to instil that crucial drive in future generations,” said Mike Oswald, general manager of Ferrari World Abu Dhabi and Yas Waterworld.
“We strongly believe in creating interest for school students around science, technology, engineering and math subjects that will open up new career paths for them in a young and exciting industry in the UAE.”
Yas Waterworld will have a stand on water flow and conservation. It will offer the chance for visitors to build their own park, helping them develop an awareness plan on conserving and recycling water without affecting the satisfaction of park visitors.
The festival will be held at the du Forum, on Yas Island.
