Sun seekers heading to the beach this weekend should remember that Lagoon Beach and the Blue Walk on the Abu Dhabi Corniche will be closed until the end of March 2018 for redevelopment.
The closure starts near Gate One, across from 6th street near the Spinneys intersection. It extends towards the Hiltonia.
Yad Deswal, a regular Lagoon Beach visitor who works in the area, said the closure will not stop him from weekly visits to the beach. “It’s near my work and parking by National Tower but it’s not much further to walk,” said Mr Deswal, 29, who is from India.
Cynthia Saloman, from the Golden Pearl kiosk, said the closure, which began on October 26, had not had noticeable effects on local businesses.
In 2013, Abu Dhabi Municipality announced that it would built a high-end beach club along Lagoon Beach as part of its Corniche expansion. The facility would have beach access, pools, a health club, a children's play area and high-end food and beverage outlets, according to the announcement.
