DUBAI // Six finalists were singing their hearts out last night at the climax of the Camp ka Champ, a labour camp talent contest. Thousand of labourers had gathered at the Al Nasr Leisureland in Dubai to cheer on the contestants and vote for their favourite performers, who were in three teams, each of two singers. With the winner due to be announced later last night, the spectators danced the hours away as the contestants sang popular Bollywood numbers.

The contest, sponsored by Western Union, is the first of its kind to be held in Dubai, with participation by thousands of workers from several companies. Auditions were conducted in labour camps of Sonapur, Al Quoz and Jebel Ali and the finalists were selected by a panel of judges. In addition to the applause and congratulations of colleagues, the winners will walk away with prizes and gift vouchers.
