Khorfakkan municipality demolishes houses in modernisation drive

Owners will be compensated for their homes, which are more than 50 years old.

Khorfakkan municipality has begun to demolish 260 houses and one farm in six neighbourhoods in an effort to modernise the old town, reported Al Ittihad, The National's Arabic-language sister newspaper.

Owners will be compensated for their homes, which are more than 50 years old. Houses are located in four residential neighbourhoods and Al Zubara and Luluiya areas.

The new development is under the directive of Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed, Ruler of Sharjah.

Demolition is in coordination with the Sharjah Planning and Survey Department.
