More than 2,800 junior rugby players from the Middle East and Europe will battle it out this weekend at the Dubai Sevens grounds.

The Rugby Festival series, which also visits Abu Dhabi, Bahrain and Doha over the 2012/13 season, has Under 8, Under 10, Under 12 and Under 14 age categories. Teams will play for points for an end-of-season prize, a VIP training session with an HSBC Rugby ambassador and a new kit for the team.

Diarmuid O'Malley, the Arabian Knights Under 8 coach, said it was good for the teams to play against each other with a high standard.

"It's great exposure for them to play in competitive environment and especially with the international teams that travel for this," he said. "It's the biggest in the region."

HSBC has also launched a new charity initiative, Kit for Kids, which asks for donations of unwanted rugby kit for underprivileged children across the region.
