DUBAI// An armed robber stole Dh200,000 from his victim after stabbing him with a pair of scissors, the criminal court heard.

The victim, S M, 28, from Iran, was heading to a relative’s office on September 4 last year to repay a debt in cash.

On the way, he passed by a supermarket owned by his uncle. There he started chatting with an acquaintance, H Z, whom he told him he was carrying Dh200,000 to return to his relative.

He left for his other relative’s office and while he was waiting there he was surprised to see H Z turn up.

Ten minutes later there was a knock on the door of the office and H Z opened it.

A masked man brandishing the large pair of scissors entered and demanded the money.

“I was fighting with the masked man and HZ just stood there doing nothing,” said S M.

“He didn’t help me and when I managed to unmask the attacker and identify him, H Z ran away while the attacker started stabbing me in the back and neck.”

The robber got away with the Dh200,000 loan repayment plus Dh400,000 that was in the relative’s office desk.

H Z was arrested after S M informed police about his reaction to the robbery. He confessed and named Iranian E K, 33, as the masked man.

E K was arrested in Sharjah trying to flee the country.

Prosecutors charged HZ and EK with armed robbery. At court on Sunday, both defendants denied the charge.

The next hearing will be on February 19.
