Lalit Modi, one of the most controversial and high-profile figures in cricket, has been removed from any involvement with the game in India.
Mr Modi, the driving force behind the Indian Premier League (IPL), was ousted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) at its annual meeting in Mumbai yesterday. He was stripped of the chairmanship of the Twenty20 tournament and as vice-president of the BCCI.
Mr Modi was suspended this year as chief of the IPL governing council following allegations of corruption and indiscipline, although he has consistently denied any wrongdoing.
"Modi is not part of the BCCI anymore. Now he cannot say he is a suspended IPL chairman," the Press Trust of India quoted board president Shashank Manohar as saying. "The present IPL governing council has been dissolved," Mr Manohar said after the meeting. "All decisions were taken unanimously by the members."
Mr Modi has been replaced as IPL chairman by Chirayn Amin, a successful businessman and cricket administrator and a former vice-president of the BCCI.
But the BCCI withdrew a corruption case against Jagmohan Dalmiya, its former president, and lifted his four-year ban. The board had accused Mr Dalmiya of misappropriating more than $700,000 (Dh2.57million) during the 1996 World Cup.
