DUBAI // A man who is serving 15 years in prison for raping a French boy in 2007 was sentenced this morning to five more years for raping another prison detainee who himself had been charged with raping a schoolgirl.
AK, 42, an Emirati, had denied the charge at the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance last October, saying he did not rape the Pakistani inmate inside the Dubai Central Jail's washroom after threatening him with a knife, as prosecutors had alleged.
He told the presiding Judge Fahmy Mounir Fahmy that he did not want a defence lawyer, and that he simply preferred to listen to the victim's testimony in court.
"He will tell you that I didn't do this," AK had told the court.
The 21-year-old victim MR was being tried for allegedly raping an 8-year-old schoolgirl after kidnapping her from an Islamic teaching centre.
AK's medical reports confirmed that he suffers from Aids and Hepatitis C.
Prosecutors said that around 10pm, he put a knife at MR's neck, put out a lit cigarette in the victim's hand, then then forced him to enter the washroom where he had sex with him against his will.
AK also threatened to have other cellmates rape MR if he did not agree to have sex with him, prosecutors said, adding that AK also threatened to kill MR if he reported the incident to police.
The Chief Prosecutor Sami Al Shamsi, the Head of Bur Dubai Prosecution, sought the death penalty against AK.
MR's cellmates told prosecutors that the victim had told them he was raped by A K and that he cried all night.
The 15-year jail term against AK and another Emirati man, who both kidnapped a 15-year-old French boy and had sex with him against his will in a deserted area in Al Barsha, was upheld by the Dubai Cassation Court in 2008.
MR faces charges of kidnapping and raping an 8-year-old Bangladeshi schoolgirl as she held the Quran in fear. He pleaded not guilty and claimed that police forced him to confess.
Judge Fahmy is the same judge who sentenced AK in the rape of the French boy.
