Ignore flight cancellations, Etihad tells customers
DUBAI// Etihad Airways customers were advised to ignore notifications about flight cancellations sent out yesterday after a technical problem.
A message on the airline’s website said the carrier was experiencing problems with some bookings.
“Etihad Airways is experiencing technical issues today surrounding some bookings,” it said yesterday. “The airline is working closely with its systems provider to resolve the situation. Customers are advised to ignore any cancellation notification received.”
The carrier said bookings would be reinstated and original flight plans would not be affected. “Etihad Airways apologises for the inconvenience caused.”
The airline switched to a new Dh3.67 billion sales and service system in February. This involved moving 530,000 bookings to the new software, and training more than 6,700 Etihad and third-party staff.
The upgrade was made to airport systems in Abu Dhabi and 23 other cities, but technical problems resulted in the airline’s website going down for two days.
Etihad signed a 10-year agreement with Sabre Airline Solutions to maintain the service.
It was brought in to increase revenue, improve efficiency and allow customers to customise their travel arrangements.
