Hundreds show up for Dubai cycling event

The Great Pulse Ride saw 756 registered cyclists in all categories and age groups take part

DUBAI // Hundreds of people took part in a cycling event in Dubai on Friday, making it the largest event of its kind in the emirate.

The Great Pulse Ride saw 756 registered cyclists, in all categories and age groups, take part in the largest community cycling event, said state news agency, Wam.

The event took place on Friday morning at the new Dubai Cycling course in Al Qudra, which has a dedicated 66km cycling path. The day was geared toward encouraging increased fitness in the community.

A total of three rides took place, for seasoned cyclists, intermediates and children.

“It’s wonderful to see more and more individuals in the community put a greater importance on their fitness and wellbeing” said Nasser AlRahma, Director of the Community and Private Sector Department in the Dubai Sports Council.

“This was our goal when setting up the Dubai Pulse programme, so it’s very rewarding to see such a great turnout at today’s event. We couldn’t be happier,” he said.

There was also an array of food and beverages, bouncy castles, retail stands and music at the village section of the event.
