DUBAI // Two hotel group employees completed an intensive paddling ultra-marathon from Dubai to Abu Dhabi to raise funds for the group’s disaster relief programme, IHG Shelter in a Storm.

Damian ten Bohmer, InterContinental Hotels Group’s director of commercial, and acting field marketing manager Angelo Vassiliades paddled more than 180 kilometres over three consecutive days as part of the Capital Paddle.

The pair set off from InterContinental Dubai Festival City on Thursday and finished at InterContinental Abu Dhabi on Saturday.

In addition to contributing to the IHG Shelter Fund, the duo also raised awareness of the environment and the importance of keeping the city’s waterways clean.

“Damian and Angelo are live examples of what it means to walk the talk,” Pascal Gauvin, the chief operating officer for IHG India, Middle East and Africa said.

“We are very proud of their efforts to raise funds for our Shelter in a Storm programme.”

The Capital Paddle follows earlier fundraising events including the hotel group’s week-long global awareness event, Race Around the World, in which more than 177,000 from IHG’s corporate offices and hotels across 67 countries took part.
