ABU DHABI // The imam of the world's oldest mosque preached at the Crown Prince majlis earlier this week.
Sheikh Saleh bin Awad Al Maghamsi, from the Quba Mosque in Medina, told an audience at the majlis of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, about two influential figures in the Quran who always believed in God, even at dire times.
He first spoke about Prophet Ibrahim, the father of the prophets, speaking of tests he endured in his life, starting of with his journey to find God, knowing that the idols his forefathers worshipped were mere man-made statues.
And even though Prophet Ibrahim had trials and afflictions - once being thrown into fire for breaking the statues - as he surrendered his heart to God, God saved him.
"There is no greater successful business, than working for God," he said.
And after speaking about Prophet Sulaiman - also known as Solomon - who was taught all the languages of animals and birds, he spoke of a man named the Samaritan, from the tribes of Israel.
At the end of the session, many members of the audience took the opportunity to put their questions to the Imam. He took questions about jinn, the "messengers of determination", and honouring one's parents.
He said it was best to pray for God to be merciful on them, just as they once raised their children.
The moderator concluded by praying for Sheikh Zayed, the nation's founding president.
