The UAE has launched its Ramadan campaign for Yemen, which will include 100,000 food parcels and a number of charity and humanitarian initiatives.

The campaign will focus on providing for the requirements of local people, and will include the launch of children’s Eid clothing projects in Dalea, the Red Sea Coast, Taez, Lahej, Aden, Abyan, Hadramout and Shabwa, state news agency Wam reported.

As well as 5,000 food supplements for mothers and babies, the UAE will distribute 100,000 food parcels, and will fund the construction of 500 water tanks to provide clean water to the areas under the control of the legitimate government.

The UAE also plans to provide 150,000 iftar, or sunset, meals for people to break their fast.

The country has, along with and Saudi Arabia, provided a donation of US$240 million to United Nations agencies for the delivery of food and clean water during Ramadan.

Last week, the UAE said it is to diversify its continued aid efforts in Yemen this year by looking beyond the UN for aid partners.

Speaking to journalists, the Minister of State for International Co-operation, Reem Al Hashimi, said the country continues to support the legitimate government and people of Yemen with food, health care and infrastructure.

When asked whether there would be a Ramadan truce between the coalition forces — led by the UAE and Saudi Arabia — and Houthi forces, who are in control of the Yemeni capital Sanaa, she said: "There is a ceasefire, technically."

She also talked about media perception of the war in Yemen, with the coalition having been criticised internationally for their efforts in Yemen. The Houthis, she said, have been positioning themselves as the "victim" or "underdog".

"I am confident that the truth will emerge in its own way and pace," she said.
