Hailstorms and heavy rain lashed parts of the UAE on Thursday.

Clouds started to build at 1.30pm over Fujairah and nearby areas and fresh winds reached up to 40km/h caused blowing dust over scattered areas.

Heavy rain and hail was reported over Masafi and Ihfara in Ras al Khaimah, while moderate rainfall was recorded over Kalba in Sharjah and scattered areas of Fujairah.

The National Centre for Meteorology posted videos of the rainfall, with water gushing down mountainous areas in Al Bithnah in Fujairah, Wadi Al Helo in Sharjah and Wadi Mai in Ras al Khaimah.

The centre had already warned of rain of “varying intensity” across the country up until Wednesday.

Rain is expected over the east and west of the country on Saturday, and continue in the south and east on Sunday, especially in the afternoon and evening.

There may be thunder and lightning in Al Ain.

Forecasters have warned people to be careful driving in rain, at times of reduced visibility and amid dust and sandstorms.

“It is advised to stay away from valleys and areas of flash flooding,” said a statement.

People should also avoid the Arabian Gulf and Oman Sea, which will both be rough at times between Saturday and Wednesday.
