UAE to host international conference on special needs
ABU DHABI // The UAE is to host an event that should lead to greater integration of people with disabilities and special needs into mainstream society.
Education, health, accessibility, social inclusion, employment and policy development will be highlighted at the Abilitiesme conference at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre early next year, the state news agency Wam reported yesterday.
“We are delighted to host Abilitiesme for the first time in the Middle East,” said Humaid Al Dhaheri, chief commercial officer at the conference centre.
“The event will also raise awareness of the challenges that individuals with disabilities face.
“The event will additionally highlight latest scientific developments to help people with disabilities,” he added.
Government officials from the UK, United States, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and India have pledged to take part. Educators, social workers and clinicians will be among the experts involved, and people with disabilities, including autism, cerebral palsy and limited motor or physical abilities, will also attend.
The latest products and services to improve the lives of people with disabilities will be on show, including assistive technology, healthcare robotics, rehabilitation equipment, and sports and leisure facilities.
Abilitiesme will be held at Adnec from March 24 to 26 next year.
