ABU DHABI // Four medical centres and three pharmacies across the country have been temporarily closed by the Ministry of Health and Prevention.

The Heath Governance Department carried out 1,656 inspections of 548 medical facilities and 633 pharmacies and warehouses in the first half of the year after receiving reports concerning safety violations.

The offences included poor storage of medicines, improper ventilation systems and sterilization methods as well as incorrect disposal of medical waste.

Dr Amin Al Amiri, Assistant Undersecretary for Public Policy and Licensing of the Ministry of Health and Prevention and Vice Chairman for Supreme National Drug Registration, said the one to four month temporary closures were disciplinary rather than punitive to ensure compliance with regulations.
