Women in Sharjah will be encouraged to save their newborn children's umbilical cords, which can be valuable in providing blood stem cells needed to treat health issues at later stages in life.
This follows a decision by the Breast Feeding Friends Society, an affiliate of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, to cooperate with Cryo-Save Arabia, a private cord blood stem cell bank.
Headquartered in Dubai Healthcare City, Cryo-Save Arabia specialises in the collection, isolation and storage of stem cells from umbilical cord blood.
