NYU Abu Dhabi goes pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

ABU DHABI // New York University Abu Dhabi, is lighting its campus pink to as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Along with the pink lights, NYUAD kicked off a month-long awareness campaign with a pink themed high tea where survivors, doctors and community members came together to listen to speakers including Dr Margaret Blott, head of obstetrics at Corniche Hospital, and Dr Nadia Malik, specialist radiation oncologist at Gulf International Cancer Centre.

Another event planned for the month is Funny Girls go Pink, an all-female stand-up comedy show. Students are also participating in the Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank Pink Run and a pink themed fitness challenge at NYUAD.

Hannah Taylor, a student who is organising the events, said: “As NYUAD students, we saw the high tea as an incredible opportunity to bring together allies to the cause, furthering awareness and education.”

Suparna Mathur, assistant director of community outreach, said: “Turning the campus pink for breast cancer awareness month signals our commitment to this global health movement and is intended to spark conversation and ignite people to take action on this critical issue.

“Along with increased awareness and education, our hope with this campaign is to compel women to think about self-checks, and for others to encourage their loved ones to do the same.”

Breast cancer is the most-commonly diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of death in women.
