New medical licence lets visiting doctors work in Dubai for up to two years
Visiting doctors to be able to work at three clinics, under the sponsorship of Dubai Healthcare City
A new medical licence that will allow visiting doctors to work at three clinical facilities for up to two years in Dubai was announced on Saturday.
Starting January 20, healthcare professionals will be able to apply for the Visiting Doctor’s licence to work at clinics in Dubai Healthcare City free zone.
Currently, visiting doctors can only practise temporarily in the free zone through a licence obtained by clinical facilities. That licence is valid for three months with the option to extend by an additional three months only.
With the new licence, physicians will be able to work for two years, after obtaining a Letter of Acceptance — to confirm their eligibility to work as physicians — and enter into a contract with a clinical facility. They will also be able to sponsor their families during that period.
The licence is part of increasing efforts to attract international medical talent to Dubai.
“Attracting global medical expertise to serve the health of our citizens is one of the main pillars of the transformation of Dubai’s medical system,” said Dr Ramadan Alblooshi, chief executive of Dubai Healthcare City Authority — Regulatory.
“The new ‘Visiting Doctor’s Licence’ will help achieve this as it provides flexibility and mobility for global, high-calibre physicians wishing to work in Dubai Healthcare City, consequently increasing unique expertise in the free zone.”
Eligible healthcare professionals can apply for the licence on the e-services portal, Masaar.
