Man airlifted to hospital after falling ill on cargo ship in UAE

An Emirati man was airlifted to hospital after falling ill on a cargo ship travelling in UAE waters.

The National Search and Rescue Centre dispatched a helicopter after receiving an alert shortly before noon on Wednesday.

The rescue team released footage detailing the mission, showing the craft hovering over the vessel before a crew member swooped in to winch the stricken man to safety.

He was then flown to Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City in Abu Dhabi for treatment.

The condition of the man, who is in his 20s, was not disclosed.

“The National Centre for Search and Rescue operations room team managed to locate and identify the incident site was identified and a take-off order was given to the search and rescue aircraft to carry out the rescue and medical evacuation operation,” said the centre in a statement.
