Ayman Helal, a 21-year-old from Egypt, has had to undergo two operations on the same knee. Both injuries happened while he was playing football with friends. When he was 18 he ripped his anterior cruciate ligament during an intense match. He underwent successful surgery and physical therapy at the Abu Dhabi Knee and Sports Medicine Centre. "People don't realise that knee injuries can be treated and you can not only walk again without a limp, but run and play sport and get back to normal life in no time," he said.
His second injury, six months ago, came when he tore his meniscus playing beach football. Although he has vowed to strengthen his muscles and be more careful, mostly he just wants to get back on the field. "In three or four months at most, I'll be able to play football again."
