Haad says Ebola test on dead Nigerian woman has come back negative

The woman was known to have advanced metastatic cancer and was on her way for treatment in India, but she died at the airport and attempts to resuscitate her failed.

ABU DHABI // A Nigerian woman who died in transit at Abu Dhabi airport last Friday did not have Ebola, formal tests have shown.

The woman was known to have advanced metastatic cancer and was on her way for treatment in India, but she died at the airport and attempts to resuscitate her failed.

“Some of her signs during resuscitation, although explainable by her medical condition, could also have been caused by Ebola virus, and hence this diagnosis needed to be excluded,” Health Authority – Abu Dhabi said on Thursday night.

Haad followed procedures by isolating her husband and the five medical staff who tried to resuscitate her as a precautionary measure pending the result of the Ebola test.

“Given the negative result, all these individuals are scheduled to be released from isolation today,” the authority said.

On Tuesday, Etihad Airways released a statement saying it had disinfected one of its planes as a precaution after the woman’s death.
