ABU DHABI // More than 3,000 experts in dental health from about 45 countries are expected to attend the Asia Pacific Dental Congress in Dubai next year.

The Emirates Medical Association’s Dental Society is collaborating with the Asia Pacific Dental Federation, the Ministry of Health and the Emirates Medical Association to host the event and promote oral-health awareness and good hygiene practices in the UAE.

“Four people out of five residing in the UAE exhibit signs of tooth decay,” said Dr Aisha Alsuwaidi, president of the dental society and chairwoman of the Dubai congress.

The event next year will feature a broad programme that includes pioneering research and technological developments, Dr Alsuwaidi said.

“The global dental community recognises the positive impact of good oral hygiene on the general wellbeing of the society,” she said.

The theme for APDC 2014, at the Dubai World Trade Centre from June 17 to 19, is Improving Quality of Life through Better Dental Care.

A delegation from the dental society attended this year’s Annual World Dental Congress in Istanbul, Turkey, at the end of last month.
