An Emirati woman who claimed to be a leading expert in stem cell treatment had her medical licence suspended.

The Dubai Health Authority's decision came after she appeared on several local television programmes, speaking about the future of medicine and medical techniques.

When social media users criticised her amid doubts over her qualifications, she released to the public her medical degree, a two-year physician's qualification from the Central American Health Institute in Belize.

However, some commentators highlighted that the college is not recognised by the Ministry of Higher Education.

In a statement on Twitter, the DHA said her licence would remain suspended until her qualifications are validated.

The move is the latest in a series of actions by the health authority as it cracks down on malpractice.

Earlier this year, it ordered First Med Day Surgery Centre to halt surgeries after an Emirati woman was left in a coma followed a botched surgery. The case is still open.
