Fifteen new cases of coronavirus were reported in the UAE on Tuesday.

The cases, announced by the Ministry of Health and Prevention, brought the country’s total infection tally to 113.

They include citizens from Kyrgyzstan, Serbia, Italy, the Netherlands, Australia, Germany, the US, Greece, Russia, Ukraine, Bangladesh and two people from Britain and Spain each.

All had come into contact with people who tested positive for the virus or recently flown into the Emirates and were under quarantine, reported state news agency Wam.

"All those in close contact with the confirmed cases are being screened to avert spreading of the disease and ensure public safety," the ministry said.

It said all patients were stable and receiving medical treatment in the Emirates.

It said the cases were detected through the country’s “continuous testing of people who had come into contacts with coronavirus patients”.

The UAE reported its first cases, a family of four from Wuhan in China, where the virus originated, in late January.

Since then, more than 100 have tested positive for coronavirus and 26 have fully recovered.

As of Tuesday, the Emirates had tested more than 127,000 people for the disease.

It  had conducted the maximum number of swab tests per capita, with more than 13,020 carried out for every million people, the ministry said.

The country registered 0.8 Covid-19 cases for every 1,000 people.

In response to the pandemic, the government has introduced strict measures limiting public and private gatherings to contain the spread of the virus.

These include closing tourist sites, cinemas and gyms, limiting travel and calling off events.

On Tuesday, the ministry advised the public to adhere to preventive health and personal hygiene protocols to prevent the spread of the disease.

"The public is also advised to adopt protective health behaviour to avoid infectious diseases, including washing their hands with soap and clean water, and covering the mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing to stop the spread of germs and viruses," the ministry statement said.

It also advised individuals suffering from respiratory symptoms to avoid crowded and public places.
