UAE authorities have advised families not to share meals during Ramadan because the quality of home-cooked food cannot be monitored.

The authorities said all restaurants and bakeries in the country had been asked to follow strict guidelines to ensure there was no contamination of food.

On Monday, the country reported 490 new cases, taking the tally to 10,839.

Health officials said 29,984 more tests were carried out in the 24 hours as part of nationwide efforts to tackle the spread of the disease.

The Ministry of Health and Prevention said 112 more people had made full recoveries, taking the number to be given the all-clear to 2,090.

But six more patients died.

The authorities have organised campaigns to help people understand the importance of hygiene and preventive measures in battling the virus.

Workers' accommodations and kitchens are checked to ensure they are maintaining hygiene levels.

Authorities provided workers with food, disinfectant and masks.

The country’s first locally made hand sanitiser will also be distributed among low-income families and workers.

Authorities also warned that obesity and smoking could affect recovery.

Eating a balanced diet, exercising and getting enough sleep were all important, they said.
