Sheikh Khalifa Medical City in Abu Dhabi constructed a new hospital to treat Covid-19 patients in only 48 hours.
The new 127-bed medical centre, staffed with 85 nurses and 20 doctors, was completed in time to welcome its first patient on Monday.
The new hospital includes 12 family rooms to allow relatives to remain close to those receiving care.
All rooms are equipped with video calling systems to ensure constant communication between patients and medical staff.
"We are a nation that doesn't believe in impossible", said Mohamed Issa Al Mehri, deputy chief financial officer at SKMC, who managed the ambitious project.
"Our human resources are our real capital at this time of crisis. this project would not have been accomplished without the hard work of every team member who worked day and night to meet the deadline."
A number of field hospitals have already been opened across the Emirates, including at Dubai World Trade Centre and Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, to boost the fight against Covid-19 and ease the pressure on the country's healthcare system.
