Coronavirus must be reported immediately, Abu Dhabi health authority warns

The Health Authority of Abu Dhabi wants healthcare providers to inform them immediately in case of novel coronavirus.

Haad last month instructed all healthcare providers to immediately report suspected or confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection via an electronic reporting system.

Samples must be sent to Sheikh Khalifa Medical Centre within 24 hours of being collected. Haad's guidelines also cover the storage and transportation of samples.

Healthcare workers must adhere to infection-control measures when dealing with a suspected case.

According to the World Health Organisation, pneumonia has been the most common clinical symptom of the virus. Other symptoms, such as renal failure, pericarditis and blood clots in small blood vessels have all been noted.
