Abu Dhabi Police issued 1,672 fines at malls and beaches across the emirate for flouting Covid-19 safety rules over the past two months.

The force said the raft of offences included failing to wear masks, not observing physical distancing and hosting gatherings which exceeded maximum limits.

Police reiterated calls for members of the public to abide by precautionary measures to help curb the spread of the virus.

Authorities across the country have stepped up efforts to ensure coronavirus laws are enforced in recent weeks.

Commercial venues and leisure spots were given the green-light to gradually reopen on the basis they strict rigidly to guidelines.

On Thursday, inspectors from Dubai Economy fined 24 businesses and warned five others for non-compliance with Covid-19 safety regulations.

Most of the businesses were fined because staff were not wearing face masks while seven were penalised for breaching physical distancing guidelines.

The businesses included electronics stores, clothing and perfume shops in Al Mamzar, Al Sabkha, Naif and Muhaisnah 4.

Overall, 655 inspected shops were found to be in full compliance with regulations.
