Abu Dhabi Police handed out masks and other personal protective supplies to residents in some districts as part of the “For Your Safety” campaign.

People in Mussaffah, Al Mafraq, Al Shawamekh and Al Ain City were beneficiaries of the community drive to curb the spread of Covid-19.

As part of the country’s efforts to limit infection rates, residents must wear masks and gloves at all times when outside the home.

“The campaign aims to distribute face masks among workers in their workplaces and accommodation camps and to boost their awareness of the precautionary measures against the virus, including proper wearing of face masks and gloves and adhering to social distancing protocols,” Captain Mohamed Musabah Al Saadi, of Abu Dhabi Police, said.

Authorities have also carried out a Covid-19 awareness campaign in parts of Al Ain City.

Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre has called on companies to comply with health regulations to stop the spread of Covid-19 in labour accommodation.

Companies must provide sanitiser and face masks, frequently disinfect public transport and accommodation, and provide health care for all workers.

The centre commended Trojan General Contracting, a construction company that specialises in mass housing, for following safety guidelines at labour accommodation camps.

The company has given its workers sanitiser, arranged medical check-ups and provided self-isolation rooms for those who may have contracted the coronavirus that causes Covid-19.

The UAE has taken strong steps to tackle the spread of the disease in recent weeks.

A nationwide sterilisation drive to clean roads, streets and public transport vehicles remains in operation in Abu Dhabi, with residents told to stay in their homes from 8pm to 6am each day while the clean-up campaign takes place.

Schools, universities and non-essential stores also remain closed to the public as part of the precautionary measures.
