Coronavirus: UAE announces 532 new Covid-19 cases

The number of recoveries has now reached 79 per cent of the total infections to date

The UAE reported a further 532 new coronavirus case on Tuesday. It brought the country's total infections to 52,600.

More than 44,000 PCR tests were carried out across the country.

Officials said 993 patients overcame the virus while two people died of complications. This took the UAE's tallies to 41,714 recoveries and 326 deaths since the outbreak began.

The number of recoveries has now reached 79 per cent of the total infections to date.

UAE to carry out two million more tests in next two months as concerns raised over recent rise in cases

On Monday, authorities said the UAE aimed to carry out two million additional Covid-19 tests over the next two months.

Dr Amna Al Shamsi, a spokeswoman for the UAE government, said the country's fight against the pandemic had reached a "pivotal stage", making the increased testing necessary.

The accelerated testing drive will focus on workers in the government and service sectors, including taxi drivers and other public transport staff, hotel workers, retail employees at malls and those in state agencies.

More than 3.5 million tests have been carried out in the UAE so far.
