All government hospitals in Al Dhafra region are now free of Covid-19 cases, health officials announced.

Madinat Zayed, Dalma, Al Marfa, Ghayathi, Liwa, Al Sila and Ruwais hospitals discharged their last coronavirus patients and now provide full healthcare services to all.

“The milestone was reached thanks to the consistent efforts of the healthcare sector and testing in line with the National Screening Programme, which has drastically reduced the number of cases requiring medical care,” said the Department of Health Abu Dhabi.

Yesterday, UAE authorities urged the public to continue to follow Covid-19 safety guidelines after the end of the National Disinfection Programme.

Salem Al Zaabi, acting director of Federal Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Prosecution, said the list of offences and fines remain in force.

“Following the completion of the National Disinfection Programme, unfortunately we noticed a significant increase in the number of offences in our community, which is a sign of some being reckless,” Mr Al Zaabi said.

“We urge the public to comply with the instructions issued by the health and security authorities and to follow social distancing guidelines. Offenders will be subject to legal action as per UAE law.”

Al Dhafra Region encompasses two thirds of Abu Dhabi emirate, with a population of more than 200,000 people spread over 33,700 square kilometres.

It includes Madinat Zayed, Ruwais, Ghayathi, Liwa, Marfa, Dalma Island and Sila.

Sir Bani Yas Island, the archaeological and conservation destination, is also part of Al Dhafra.
