ABU DHABI // Police in the capital have launched an awareness campaign focussed on their own staff, encouraging employees to give up smoking.

The Medical Services Department (MSD) at Abu Dhabi Police is informing staff that smoking threatens their health.

Brigadier Salem Saleh Al Junaibi, director general of the medical services department, said the awareness programme seeks to inform workers about the dangers and diseases that can result from using tobacco products.

He said that out of 150 employees the No Smoking Clinic at MSD had contacted, it had convinced 50 to kick the habit.
