A new Covid-19 vaccination centre was opened in Abu Dhabi.

The new walk-in centre, in Masdar City, will initially offer first doses of the Sinopharm vaccine to Emiratis and residents aged 50 and over.

People aged under 50 who are awaiting their second dose can also go to the centre.

The strategy is in line with a nationwide directive issued by the Ministry of Health and Prevention on Sunday, February 7 to limit the vaccine to UAE citizens, the elderly, disabled, and people with chronic illnesses for a period of six weeks.

The new centre, part of the Mubadala Health network, is open from 10am to 7pm, Sunday to Thursday.

No appointments are necessary and shots are administered free of charge.

All people attending for vaccination must, however, meet the criteria currently set out.

Visitors will be asked to present their Emirates ID and have the free AlHosn app downloaded on their mobile phones before receiving the vaccine.

“At Masdar City, we are delighted to continue our support of the fight against Covid-19 by hosting a vaccination centre," said Abdulla Balalaa, acting executive director for sustainable real estate at Masdar City.

"Mubadala Health has been doing incredible work via its network of vaccination centres and as Mubadala Group, we are honoured to support the UAE’s national goal of providing free vaccinations for all of the country’s citizens and residents.”

Citizens and residents who wish to be vaccinated at the centre in Masdar City are advised to use the car park outside of the Siemens building and follow signs.

Visitors can also use the chauffeured buggy service, which will bring them directly from the car park to the site.

The UAE has made widespread immunisation of the public a key part of its strategy to combat Covid-19.

Since a nationwide inoculation campaign was launched in December, more than 5.5 million doses of vaccine have been administered.
