ABU DHABI // More than 100 young Emirati volunteers have been spreading the life-saving message of World Blood Donor Day.

As part of the Emirates Foundation for Youth Development's Takatof initiative, the volunteers worked with blood-donation clinics across the seven emirates.

Dedicating hours of their spare time since the drive began on June 6, the volunteers have been urging the public to donate, helping donors to complete the required documentation and distributing refreshments to participants.

"The campaign is a call from the Takatof programme urging people to donate blood and ultimately save lives," said Maytha Al Habsi, the Emirates Foundation's chief programmes officer.

She said the community response to the campaign had been tremendous.
