One of the toughest obstacle races in the world is coming to Hatta in November 10 as part of an initiative to boost the area and make it a destination of choice for sports events.

The first Middle East edition of the XDubai Spartan Race Championship, organised in partnership with the Dubai Sports Council, will take place at the Hatta Mountain Bike Trail and will feature three categories including the Spartan Sprint for amateurs and beginners over a 5 km course, a Beast Spartan race stretching over 21 km, and a special event for children below 15 years over a 1.5 km course.

The event will be open to either individuals or teams while the elite athletes competing in the 'Spartan Beast' will be competing for cash and other prizes worth more than Dh185,000.

A camping area will be prepared by Dubai Sports Council near the JA Hatta Fort Hotel, close to the mountain trails, and will be open to participants in the Championship on 9 and 10 November.

In addition, a recreational village will be set up at the venue of the competition, which will include two medical centres, rest areas, a children’s play area, food trucks, and a dedicated area to display sports outfits and equipment from major companies.

Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will provide free shuttle services all day on November 10 from Dubai to Hatta and around 2,000 parking slots will be provided for participants and the public.

Last year, more than 5,000 competitors of different age groups participated in the Spartan Race which was organised by XDubai and the Office of the Crown Prince of Dubai, at Jebel Ali racecourse.
