DUBAI // A handbook on powerboats has been released by the emirate's boating authority as part of efforts to develop and promote safety and security.

The Dubai Powerboat Handbook - The Complete Guide to Powerboating includes detailed information about the Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA) laws and regulations.

It also contains information on search and rescue, boat towing and the emirate's marinas.

The book has advice on how to deal with harsh marine conditions and restricted visibility, and how to reduce carbon emissions and protect the marine environment.

The number of boats within the territorial waters has increased steadily, said Ali Al Dabbous, executive director of operations at the DMCA.

"Therefore, it is imperative to develop marine guidelines that raise awareness of how to best deal with various aspects of environmental security and maritime safety," he said.

The DMCA regulates, coordinates and supervises the maritime sector in Dubai.

Mr Al Dabbous said increased awareness of marine safety would help to boost investor confidence in the sector.

The book was drafted in collaboration with the Royal Yachting Association in keeping with international standards.

It is free and available from the DMCA's office.
