Guitarists, Winehouse and The Streets to play in Dubai
DUBAI // Concerts aimed at bringing "young, fresh and exciting artists" to the UAE will begin next month with performances from two internationally known guitarists.
The first concert of the "Livin the Music" series will feature English rocker James Walsh, of the alternative rock band Starsailor, and the American singer-songwriter Eric Hutchinson at Brastic Beach on February 25.
Walsh's acoustic performance will set the stage for the New York-based Hutchinson, who will be releasing his new album Moving Up, Living Down this spring.
Organised by Done Events, a subsidiary of Arab Media Group, and Dubai 92 FM, the concert series is part of a season that will also feature Amy Winehouse performing in the city on February 11.
"People keep telling us to bring some of the new and upcoming artists or bands that don't normally play in our markets, so here's your chance to see some great artists and bands performing on one of Dubai's finest beaches," said Thomas Ovesen, the chief operating officer of Done Events.
On March 18, Livin the Music will also host the British rappers The Streets, who will make his Dubai debut. Known for his live performances, The Streets is expected to "provide a live show unlike any other before in the UAE", organisers said.
The first two concerts in the Livin the Music series are part of a Done Events calendar that includes performances by Pharrell Williams and his band N.E.R.D, along with special guest Mike Posner, at Gulf Bike Week 2011 on February 10. Winehouse will perform the next night at the same event, which will be held at Dubai Festival City.
Tickets to the Livin the Music concert series are Dh225 and are available at www.livinthemusicdubai.com.
