Watch: UAE flags on Kite Beach form portrait of Sheikh Zayed

Some 4,000 flags made up the portrait of the UAE Founding Father

Thousands across the country raised the UAE flag in honour of the accession of Sheikh Khalifa as president on Thursday.

Images flooded in from around the country of employees and school children hoisting the flag and celebrating with cake and dressed in clothes baring the country’s colours.

Perhaps the most creative display of unity was at Kite Beach Jumeirah, where 4,000 flags were planted in the sand to form the image of Sheikh Zayed, the country’s Founding Father, when viewed from above.

In years past, the “Flags Garden” installation has been in the shape of map and in the words, “UAE”.
