DUBAI // Submissions are being accepted for a Dh1 million search to find a selfless individual in the Arab world who has “sown goodness” within their community launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid.

The Arab Hope Makers initiative was revealed on social media on Monday by the Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, and is aimed at honouring humanitarian and community projects that help others.

“The Arab Hope Makers initiative is in the continuum of the Year of Giving declared in the UAE,” said Sheikh Mohammed.

“Our objective is to celebrate the makers of bounty and civilisation in the Arab world, for they are the real stars and role models for the new generations.

“Those who make hope and those who spread goodness are not fond of fame. Such is their nature. But new generations need role models to achieve positive change.”

Sheikh Mohammed said on Twitter that the initiative will highlight exceptional contributions made by ordinary people to serve their community.

“Every person has goodness within,” he said. “Everyone can give something back to their community. We all live on hopes that drive us to make positive changes in our communities.”

Sheikh Mohammed had posted an announcement on his social media accounts earlier this week, which took the form of a job opening for candidates aged between five and 95 years old.

The skills required for the “job” are those of giving and serving people, being positive, believing in the capabilities of Arab youth and have at least one community initiative on their track record. The reward is Dh1 million.

The Hope Makers programme aims to gather and discover 20,000 “hope stories” in the Arab world, shed light on the inspirational characters behind these programmes, and celebrate them.

There will be regular updates on social media to promote the goals and mission of the scheme and publish various stories of hope.

People from across the Arab world will be able to share and comment on these stories and choose who they think deserves to win.
