It is customary for Muslims to visit their loved ones during Eid to wish them well and share in the festive spirit, and the UAE's rulers are no different.
On Tuesday, the first day of Eid, each emirate's ruler and crown prince performed early morning prayers in their respective parts of the country before meeting at Mushrif Palace in Abu Dhabi.
There they were hosted by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, for a reception where they exchanged greetings and later expressed their well-wishes to the UAE's soldiers in Yemen, via live video-link.
In a speech carried on a live video-link to members of the armed forces, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid said: “I wish you all, and the nation, safety every year. You represent a model of the Emirati people that we are proud of. My brother, Mohamed bin Zayed, and I, are proud of you, and we convey to you the greetings of the Emirati people. History will never forget your honourable actions.”
Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, said: “May Allah Almighty bless and protect you and bring you back safe and victorious to your families and nation.”
They also prayed to God to grant mercy and peace to the members of the Armed Forces who died in the line of duty.
