UAE President Sheikh Khalifa delivers message of support to Palestine
UAE President Sheikh Khalifa has delivered a message of support to the Palestine people, reaffirming the country's stance that they have a right to independence.
Sheikh Khalifa said the UAE is closely monitoring the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Palestine and violations carried out by Israel. He called on the United Nations to take action to ensure decent living standards for the Palestine people, and bring to an end to the occupation of Palestinian territories.
In a message of solidarity sent to Cheikh Niang, chairman of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, on Thursday to mark the annual International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, he urged the UN to help ensure an independent Palestine is established peacefully, reported UAE state news agency, Wam.
"We reiterate UAE's support for the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state and to exercise self-determination," said Sheikh Khalifa.
Sheikh Khalifa also renewed the UAE's position that the Gaza Strip remains an integral part of the two-state solution and called for support for efforts aimed at lifting the Gaza blockade.
He called for more financial and developmental support for Palestine to help ensure "a better world" for all.
"We urge the donors to step up their financial and developmental support to the Palestinian people, to enable them cope with sever economic and humanitarian crises and declare their internationally-recognised independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital, as we all endeavour to implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development to ensure a better world where all nations enjoy justice, security, peace, stability and prosperity."
