The UAE has wished the new Pakistani government success as former cricket star Imran Khan prepares for a new role as the country's prime minister.

The 65-year-old has been named winner of an election that has been beset by allegations of widespread vote rigging.

The ex fast-bowler is expected to form a coalition government in the coming days after missing out on an overall majority, but securing a commanding lead over rivals in the national assembly.

The former World Cup winning cricketer was announced the winner of Pakistan's general election on Friday, despite a delayed vote count provoking accusations of foul play.
