The UAE government has condemned a terrorist attack in north-eastern Mali in which 49 soldiers died.

The attack took place at an isolated military post in Indelimane in the Menaka region on Friday.

ISIS has since claimed responsibility for the killings, although has not cited any evidence for the claim.

A statement from the UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation denounced the attack, claiming the deaths were “completely incompatible with all religious and humanitarian values and principles”.

Officials reiterated the country’s position of rejecting all forms of violence and called on the international community to unify efforts to confront terrorism.
